English High School Department

When one enters the portal of Grace, the verse “The Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Wisdom” catches the eyes. This is the guiding principle in the fulfillment of the dream of one of our late founders, Mrs. Julia L. Tan, to establish an institution that would produce competitive, skilled and God-fearing citizens. In these 70 years, her dream comes into fruition thru the excellent performance of the students academically, spiritually, socially and physically.

In consonance with the mission and vision of Grace Christian College that is, “Integrating academic excellence with Biblical truths to produce global Christian leaders”,the English High School Department embodies rigorous academic and curricular offerings founded on a Biblical world-view. While the Bible is the textbook for Values Education and Bible classes, Biblical principles is seamlessly integrated in all the subject areas being taught.

Our beloved chancellor, Dr. James L. Tan, in order to stay true to the mission of evangelizing the Filipino-Chinese parents and community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the education of their children and enhancement of their cultural heritage, has introduced various programs in the English High School Department.

• The Fishnet program encourages our youth to be “fishers of men”, using the Four Spiritual Laws, the high school students are taught to reach the community for Christ.

• The Torch Bearers and the Centurions are fellowships among the high school students that endeavors to encourage our future youth leaders to keep on in the faith.

• The Brigade, Philippines introduced to the 7th graders with the objective of “the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among boys and girls and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tends towards a true Christian Character.” .

Pursuant to the goals of integrating academic excellence with spiritual truths to produce wholesome and mature personalities in their homes, their church, and their country, training students to recognize and practice the Lordship of Christ in Life and learning in order for them to live a Christ – centered life and providing Biblically sound, Christ - honoring high academic standards and to help the student realize his full academic potential as a unique creation of God, the English High School Department has placed Grace Christian College on the map through the culture of excellence of its students and alumni.

As a commitment to excellence, the English High School Department was the first department to undergo the challenge of submitting to voluntary accreditation in 1988. Over the years, the Lord lovingly showed to the department that He is Faithful as the department continued “to reach toward the goal of the upward call” of Christ. The department moved from Level I – 3 year accredited status to consistently receiving level II – 5 year accredited status as given by the Association of Christian Schools and Universities Accrediting Council Incorporated (ACSCU – ACI). With the introduction of the highest level of accreditation, Level 3 – 5 years by the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines thru ACSCU – ACI, the English High School Department was invited to apply and was the first high school in the National Capital Region to be recognized in May 2008.

When the Department of Education (Dep Ed) rolled out plans to add two (2) years to the Secondary Education curriculum as part of the Philippines ASEAN integration initiative, Grace Christian College prayerfully researched and planned the seamless transition. By God’s grace, Grace Christian College was granted permission and was among the early implementers of the Senior High School program offering the Academic Track with the following strands:

• Accounting, Business and Management (ABM)

• Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS)

• Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) with Engineering and Medical emphasis

In S.Y. 2014-2015, the High School Department began incorporating Advanced Placement (AP) Courses through the encouragement of her beloved Chancellor, Dr. James L. Tan and the late Mrs. Judith L. Tan, VP for Student Affairs. In consonance with the vision-mission of Grace Christian College of “integrating Academic Excellence…”, the AP courses provided to our Grade 9 to Grade 12 students enhanced our students’ readiness for higher education.

Grace Christian College has high school graduates which are scattered not only in the Philippines but also abroad. Many are in the U.S.A., Alaska, Canada, Australia, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and even in England and Europe. They are respected professionals practicing their profession where ever they are. Moreover, many are in active Christian churches serving the Lord Jesus Christ in His vineyard and even serving Him fulltime in the Gospel Ministry.

Believing the objectives and mission of GCC, our graduates who become parents, send their children for Christian Education at Grace. This cycle is repeated. Many non-Christian parents who send their children to Grace because of the high academic standards of the school eventually also experience the Saving Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ because of the Christian Witness their children bring back to their homes. At the end, the school reaches not only students but also their parents.
