January 31, 2019, a day filled with excitement as fifty-five Grade Five students and two Taiwanese Campers joined the 8th Timothy Leadership Camp in World of Life Camp Calauan, Laguna. It was a three-day event that lasted until February 2, 2019. This year’s theme “Heart of a Champ! A Leader After God’s Own Heart,” had inculcated a sense of responsibility to the campers. It is not easy to become a champion, it takes determination, practice, exercise, discipline, and the commitment to never give up or walk away until victory is achieved. The fifth-graders proved that they were indeed meant to be leaders as they enthusiastically participated in every activity like the Team Building, Film Showing, and the Talent’s Night. Messages from an excellent speaker, Pastor Noel Pabiona, inspired the campers to follow David’s example as a leader after God’s own heart. Dr. Mary Grace Termulo helped the students “win the battle within” through her enlightening talk. Through the speakers and the different activities in the camp, the students learned to seek God with all their hearts and depend on Him. They were also taught to emulate the servant-leadership traits exemplified by Jesus Christ.
The Timothy Camp also gave the campers the opportunity to foster cooperation, and this was shown when they shared their talents in the Showcase of God’s Gift - one of the highlights of the camp. Masbate 1 won as they creatively recreated the “Feeding of the Five Thousands”, while Green Team showed vitality when they were pronounced as the champion in the Team Building. Masbate 4 went home bringing the title of the “Cleanest Cabin”. Another unexpected award was given to Masbate 2 as the “Most Cooperative Group”.
Indeed it was a meaningful and very enlightening experience for our grade 5 campers, but the most memorable and probably the greatest gift that they received was accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. We thank God for this wonderful opportunity as these campers grow knowing that Jesus will be their example and guide. All glory and honor belongs to Him.
