"Graceans Bring Home International Math Tilt Championship Trophy"



Three Graceans: Kate Andrea Bonamy, John Cedric Laohoo and Shaun Wesley Que (all from EH 4-6) won the Championship Trophy in the Junior Division of the 4th International Young Mathematicians Convention (IYMC) held in Lucknow, India last December 2010.

  In a separate math quiz of the same competition, the three tied as second runner-up with St. Paul Girls School of London.


The three also won Gold in the Relay, and Silver in the Team categories. Overall, the GCC team won 1st runner-up, and ranked as the Top Philippine team in the competition. In the Individual Category, Kate Andrea Bonamy won Gold; while John Cedric Laohoo and Shaun Wesley Que won Silver.  

The Philippine delegation, comprised of GCC students, had been trained by the Mathematics Trainers Guild (MTG) – Philippines. “This is another spectacular triumph of our students, showing that Filipinos are also excellent in Math if given the proper training and motivation,” said MTG-Philippines President Dr. Simon Chua during an interview with Philippine Star.

The thirteen countries that participated in the competition were: Philippines, Bhutan, England, India, Indonesia, Iran, Korea, Nepal, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

            Organized by the City Montessori Inter-College-Gomti Nagar, the Office of the Uttar Pradesh Governor, and Lucknow University, the competition had 2 divisions: the Junior (Grade 7 to 10) and Senior (Grade 11 to 12).
