GCHS Holds 1st GSTIC for 2008
Grace Christian High School, a consistent member of the Philippine team to the World Robotics Olympiad and a yearly representative to International Math Competitions, sponsored its very own “Grace Science and Technology Interschool Competition” or GSTIC.
A first in Grace history the successful GSTIC was held last January 30, 2008, with the use of K’NEX tools.
Seven schools came as participants, namely:
Philippine Cultural High School - Annex, People of Grace Christian School, United Christian Academy, School of Saint Anthony of Quezon City, St. Stephen’s High School, Gospel Light Christian Academy and La Consolacion College. The teams from these schools learned, explored and had fun handling K’NEX.
After the seminars and workshops using K’NEX materials as learning tools for the students and teachers of participating schools, the construction of K’NEX models began. Unlike Lego materials comprised of bricks, rods are used in K’NEX – said to be the next generation of construction sets.
The final stage consisted of the application of the new technology introduced to all participants that day. Each team was required to construct a K’NEX model. A total of 28 students and 7 coaches brainstormed to accomplish a model.
At the end of the competition, three (3) schools stood out among the seven (7): La Consolacion College emerged as champion; followed by St. Stephen High School (2nd place) and Philippine Cultural High School – Annex (3rd place).
The launch of GSTIC was made possible through the support of the GCHS administration led by principal Dr. James Tan; EHS Supervisor, Ms. Lucy Sia and EHS Science Overseer, Mrs. Romana Bacani; and through the notable assistance of eleven Graceans
